York United FC are pleased to announce the signing of Canadian midfielder Joshua Lopez to a Development Contract ahead of the 2025 Canadian Premier League season.
Lopez, 17, is a versatile talent who can operate centrally or out wide, showcasing excellent composure, close control and a natural finishing instinct in the final third.
A native of Toronto, ON, Lopez previously featured for Vaughan Azzurri and spent time with the TFC Academy before earning his opportunity with The Nine Stripes. Over the past several months, he has gained valuable experience training regularly with the York United first team and was named to the matchday squad for the club’s final fixtures of the 2024 CPL season.
“Josh is a terrific example of the type of young player we want to support and develop,” said Ricardo Pasquel, President of York United FC. “There’s a clear pathway here for local talent, and the work being done across our Academy continues to push players forward. Josh has embraced the environment, shown tremendous growth and now earns this opportunity within the First Team setup. We’re excited to see what lies ahead for him.”
With preseason wrapping up, Lopez is set to kick off the 2025 CPL campaign with York United as the club travels west for its season opener against Vancouver FC on Sunday, April 6.
